Hunt, Deltel & Co. Ltd was formed in 1937 and is a Seychelles registered and owned company, with an extensive portfolio of activities, with particular emphasis in shipping and service related fields.

Hunt, Deltel & Co. Ltd. is committed to achieving excellence in service delivery to its customers. Our ISO 9001:2015 Quality Management System sets out guiding principles defined by a risk-minimization approach and continual improvement which in turn defines top management’s policies and strategies.

History

Commercial Shipping

The company's principle activity has historically been shipping line representation; our directors have witnessed the evolution of shipping in Seychelles from break-bulk shipments to full containerisation; from direct calls from Europe to the current hub and feeder system.

1937

The Beginnings

Hunt Deltel was formed in 1937 by two prominent members of the local community, Percival Hunt and Alexandre Deltel. The company started with just 5 employees in an office without electricity on Revolution Avenue in Victoria. Many would be surprised to learn of our history in the provision of insurance services and the importation of a vast range of products, from cigars to alcohol, paint and sports goods.

Streamlining

Hunt, Deltel & Co. Ltd. streamlines its importation portfolio following the opening of Seychelles International Airport in 1972. With the expansion of the local market and the arrival of tourism the company concentrates on its services and vehicle distribution.

1972

Seychelles International Airport

On the 20th March 1972 the Seychelles International Airport is opened by her majesty the Queen Elizabeth II

1972

IATA Agency

Appointed as the first IATA Cargo Agent for Seychelles following the start of regular weekly consolidation services out of Europe.

1979

Mahe Business Machines

Opened the first computer retail outlet in Seychelles. Represented Apple and Olivetti Products. MBM was also one of three shareholders that established the first ISP for Seychelles, Atlas Ltd, later acquired by Cable & Wireless Ltd.

1980

Industrial Fishing

Acted as agent for the first purse seiner vessel carrying out exploratory voyages to ascertain viability of purse seine tuna fishing in the Indian Ocean.

1981

DHL

Company started the first international courier operations in Seychelles, firstly with TNT and subsequently with DHL International

1984

Stevedoring

Above: In the past, local fish exports were frozen, packed into gunny backs, & brought to the quay in insulated fiberglass boxes. Nowadays they are loaded into reefer containers & transported around the world by cargo ship or reefer vessel.

At the request of the Spanish owned tuna fleets, the company established its own stevedoring operations for tuna transhipment.

1994

ISO Certified

Hunt, Deltel & Co. Ltd. acquires ISO certification.

2000

Eden Island Marina

The company designed, developed and manages the first super yacht marina in Seychelles.

The company has an extensive transport fleet including container side lifters for 20’ and 40 containers.

Express Logistics Ltd, a subsidiary of the company, specialises in customs clearance, logistics and airfreight.
